John Holmes and
Pam Cobb live in Todos Santos, Mexico which is located in Baja
California Sur,
50 miles North of Cabo San Lucas on the Pacific coast.
John grew up in Wichita, Kansas and graduated with
a degree in art from the University of Kansas. He spent his life
as a carpenter/woodworker, but has made art of some sort pretty much
all of his life.
Pam grew up in New York and graduated with a degree
in English and French from the University of Kansas. She lived in
Northern California for about 35 years where she undertook various
trades, the most enjoyable being running a commercial salmon boat
for 10 years. She claims, however, that she is not an artist, rather
a gluologist. Pam also writes short personal
essays for the
local Baja California Sur magazine, El
Calendario de Todos Santos, where she refers to
Todos Santos as Tiny Town.
Both John and Pam spend much of their free time searching
flea markets, secundos and the various trails they walk with their
dogs for items that might enhance a creation. They are low key about
selling their work, although John has been commissioned by many people
to make a specific car which includes painted caricatures of the
owners inside the car or their dog riding in the rumble seat. He
often does this in collaboration with friends in the Lawrence, Kansas
area.
They love the small art community of Tiny Town, their
Mexican neighbors, the dogs, cats and iguanas they have adopted along
the way, and of course the weather. |
